What's new at lea•kai photography.

Jenna & Stephen

We had the privilege of taking the engagement photos for our new friends from South Carolina, Jenna and Stephen.  It's often helpful to spend some time just hanging out to get everyone comfortable before the actual photo shoot, and we were a little early for the "golden hour" when the sun would be just where we'd want it for this session.

So, we met up at an East Oahu coffee shop run by our friends, Island Brew (Charles makes a wicked French Press!).   Jenna and Stephen enjoyed each other's company over a cup of coffee while took some candids.

Then we were off to the ocean cliffs rimming Hawaii Kai, known to the locals as Spitting Caves.  We got some natural light shots while the sun was still high in the sky, but as it dropped to the horizon, a wireless strobe was put to good use for fill light.  We were waiting for some great waves in the background, and the ocean did not disappoint!

Thanks, Jenna and Stephen for letting us be part of your engagement visit to Hawaii!  And, thanks Donna (Mom!) for helping with the lights :-)

The Great Migration

When we started lea•kai, we wanted a web authoring tool that produced nice web pages and was easy to use.  iWeb (R.I.P.) was just the ticket.  It provided easy to use templates that were customizable, and it tied in nicely with the rest of the iLife suite.  While it was easy to use, iWeb wasn't without its faults.

Apple discontinued development of iWeb in 2011.  With several websites under our management now on life support, we set out to find a replacement.

Squarespace.com is where we do most of my web authoring these days.  For our own sites as well as client work, we find Squarespace to offer great designs that are easy to customize and manage.  You still need some technical know-how and good content, but a much of the plumbing that would have consumed a lot of time is handled by the Squarespace folks.  For instance, security - Wordpress sites can be at risk if security patches are not maintained.

Anyhow, we just wanted to post a quick update because our site has been down recently.  We've got a lot of content to add back to this site (including our baby and family portfolios), so stay tuned!

Welcome to the new leakai.com!
